Sweet home Chicago! But, did you know that for one of the spectacular duo behind Chicagogrammers, Chicago is no longer home? That’s right, Thing 2 (aka Chrissy) of Chicagogrammers lives in Michigan, but for one weekend Chicago felt like home again for me as Cambria Chicago Loop hosted us for the weekend of our big second birthday bash.
Relieved not be crammed in Katie’s Wicker Park 1 bedroom she shares with #MainSqueeze, sleeping on her couch or air mattress (Katie here, I can vouch both are equally uncomfortable), the CG team was set up for a weekend of comfort and class in the Loop.
Have you been to Cambria Chicago Loop? We hadn’t either (they just celebrated their one year birthday) and at first glance, it may be easy to miss, nestled on Randolph next to the Oriental Theater, but it’s certainly worth a second look. Perfectly situated just steps from Chicago’s theaters and the world’s best shows (and of course, the town’s top restaurants), it was the perfect location for us to set up camp for the weekend and just the sanctuary we needed to recover from and prep for the long and busy days the birthday weekend had in store.
When we arrived at Cambria, we immediately noticed all the delightful Chicago touches. Rather than a cookie cutter color palette, the hotel took painstaking effort to incorporate little Chicago touches that made us feel extra welcome, from bits of the city into the decor with the street maps wallpaper to the adorable ‘hello’ pillows, and as locals (and former locals), we loved it. But, before we could rest, we needed to unwind and therefore headed straight to the bar for a little nightcap.
Cheekily called Intermission, the bar area is sleek and welcoming and boasts some pretty sweet happy hour specials that would be just the ticket for any pre-show imbibing: Monday to Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm they have: $4 Draft Beers, House Red or White, Bartender’s Choice Cocktail and 50% off starters. It’s safe to say we thoroughly enjoyed our drinks: a classic margarita for Katie (extra salt on the rim, please) and a strawberry habanero Moscow mule for Chrissy (that Katie helped Chrissy finish), and soon after we tucked in for a good night’s sleep.
It wasn’t long before we were back at Intermission to fuel up for the long day of party prep ahead! Coffee was a given and a necessity, and while we had a really tough time deciding just what to eat (because EVERYTHING coming out of that kitchen looked positively drool-worthy!), we finally settled on the perfect fuel to set us off for the day.
And suffice it to say, Prime Rib Benedict is always the way to go.
As the team toiled through the day, stuffing goodie bags, making signs, dotting every I and crossing every T, nothing was more welcome than hitting the pillows that night.
And we woke up refreshed and ready for some fun the next day!
